With drone club, kids get chance to set sights higher

CLEARWATER ƒ?? About a dozen children gather on a Friday evening at the Streams of Life Church. Theyƒ??re there for some "stick time," and to learn about pitch and roll and yaw, and things like battery voltage and FPV.

The Revd Rotors Drone Club are here twice a month, taking lessons from Michael Charles.

Charles talks about science and physics, about math and engineering. He walks them through computer simulators, and then onto flying a small, 65mm drone, commonly referred to as a "Whoop." From there, the kids get to use a FPV (first-person view) headset, where they can see through a camera attached to the drone.

"You just let the child grow at their own rate and let them enjoy it versus forcing it on them," Charles says. "When I see children that have a thirst for learning, I will go all out and give them what they need."
