If you need to hit something you should just do the hitting motion and it will happen and so on. To be careful, the Kinect for Xbox 360 will allow the games to follow your motion. And kids of course love this feature. Then there is also the fact that for using Kinect you do not need a controller. Here you can keep your arms completely free.

Another great thing about having Kinect for Xbox 360 is that it supports multiplayer games. Your kid's friend or sibling can enter a multiplayer game without any prerequisites except that they both will have to move back a bit further. That is, you do not need to buy another controller for a new person to enter the game. The freedom to play with friends without having to pester dad or mom for a new controller makes Kinect all the more appealing.

And then you also have the fine voice recognition system. The commands are of course plain and simple now (Microsoft will probably work on it) such as Play Xbox and similar.
